Essence Soft Touch Mousse Make-Up 04 Matt Ivory

Hi there! Today’s post is about Essence’s Soft Touch Mousse Make-Up. I chose the lightest shade – 04 Matt Ivory. Let me tell you right away that I didn’t like this foundation. That’s not because the product is horrendous (it’s not) – but because it doesn’t agree with my skin.

And many apologies for what the sticker on the lid looks like. I’ve had the foundation in my make-up bag for a while and it looks like it got beaten up by the other products in there. 😉

Essence Mousse MakeUpNow let me explain why this foundation didn’t work for me. I have dry skin and I suffer from eczema. My holy grail of make-up – Max Factor’s Pan Stik – often makes me forget that I have difficult skin.

Unfortunately Essence’s mousse foundation did the opposite. As soon as I had applied the foundation, I knew I’d have to redo my make-up. The mousse foundation highlighted a few dry patches which I hadn’t even noticed before. 😦

I also didn’t like that the lightest shade – Matt Ivory – was too dark for me. If you’d like a comparison: Essence’s Matt Ivory is a tad darker than Maybelline’s Ivory (mousse foundation). So if you look for a mousse foundation that’s lighter than Maybelline’s Light Porcelain, keep looking!

I can see that Essence’s Soft Touch Mousse Make-Up could work for women with oily skin. But if you have dry skin, I doubt this foundation will bring you any joy. If you’d like to try this foundation, it’s available for £3.80 at Wilko’s.

  1. talk about difficult skin.. I’ve got combination that changes twice a year during warm/cold season change. I am yet to find a foundation that does not bring up my dry spots and matches my skintone.

      • They are incredibly expensive for my cheap student wallet, I am waiting to find a normal salary. Besides that I am thinking of spending my personal money only on cruelty free makeup. BUT I have worked with them and find them to be amazing. Heavy duty product

      • I know finding the right make-up can be the quest of a lifetime with all the products out there. I have no idea how many foundations I’ve tried, but the only one that works for me is MF’s Pan Stik. It’s THE ONE foundation for me. It’s so good it makes my skin look dewy – and I always have at least three dry patches from eczema somewhere on my face…

I know cosmetics are often more expensive in Europe – well, depending on where you go, but here in the UK there’s always a 3 for 2 offer on cosmetics somewhere. So I buy 3 pan stiks for the price of 2. That’s just under £16 and I’m sorted for 4-5 months.

What foundation are you using at the moment?

I can never find a justification for spending a lot of money for one item when there are so so many great products for cheaper price that do as good as the expensive one does. Answering your question, I currently have I think 4 foundations that I use. Maybelline 110, Modellauncher C25, RivaldeY lightest shade and Catrice 005 (but this one seems to still be too dark).
