Hi there! Today’s post is different from my usual posts. Since I’m a self-confessed bargain hunter and beauty (and toiletries) hoarder, I have a lot of everything. Nail polish, skin care, face washes… you name it! I’m not deluding myself. I know I have more beauty stuff than anyone could reasonably need at any given time. But thanks to the blogosphere I know I’m not the only one (Hi Stashy!) whose beauty drawers and boxes are filled to the brim. But now, let’s look at three things I consider problematic…
1 I have more face masks than my local drugstore. Yes, I’m sure. I’ve got more than 80 face masks in sachets, mainly from Superdrug and Montagne Jeunesse. I know that even if I were to do two face masks every week, my stash would last me for more than nine months. Oh, and I’ve also got a few face masks in tubes…
Shocking, I know!
2 If you think this is my eyeliner stash, guess again. These eyeliners are only the ones I’m using at the moment. Yes, I’ve got several eyeliners in a rota! And I’ve got a few more in my handbag… I admit, this just came about because I was fed up of sharpening the pencils all the time, and I thought it would be better to use several eyeliners and to sharpen all of them in one go every other week. I think my entire eyeliner and lipliner stash would fill a small shoe box.
Yes, I know, this is shocking!
3 I think it’s a problem when you have back-up bottles of perfumes but you don’t remember buying them. And when you use these back-up bottles without realising you’re using the back-up bottles. And when you really have no idea that you’re using two bottles of the same fragrance at the same time. All you know is that the fragrance is always handy (Spooky – right?). You think “oh great, I did remember to take it out of my handbag and to put it on the dresser” (or the other way around). And then, at some point, you consciously take the fragrance out of your handbag to put it back on the dresser – only to realise the fragrance is already there.
Now that’s another shocker, isn’t it?
How do I intend to tackle these problems? First of all, I won’t be buying any more face masks. I’d like to say I won’t be buying any more until the end of the year, but I’m not sure I’ll stick to it. I think I can definitely commit to two months – and then I’ll see how it goes and I’ll take it from there. In regards to using the face masks – my husband (who loves a hot bath and a mud mask) will be happy to help me out!
Step two is that I won’t be buying any more Essence eyeliners just because they’re so cheap. I think I can definitely commit to not buying any eyeliners – no matter what brand – until the end of the year.
The fragrance thing is a bit more difficult. I have quite a few fragrances and I’ve identified several bottles which are near empty = down to their last 10ml or less. The Victoria Beckham Signature fragrance bottles are both down to about 15ml, and I’ll make it a priority to finish one of them this autumn. So keep an eye on my empties for the next few months as I’m expecting to finish several fragrances and body mists. Wish me luck!
Are there any other beauty hoarders out there who wish to confess? If so, feel free to let me know in the comments. And thanks for reading!
Hiiii! 😆
Eyeliners are a problem for me too. In addition to the 20 or so I have open, I also have a baggie full of unopened ones… 😛
I used to buy a lot of back-ups but I’ve curbed that habit now. Have you seen this post?

Maybe your perfumes are having babies – are they fixed!? 😮
GOOD LUCK!

OMG that Anna Sui lippie!! ♥♥♥
Sometimes I think my perfumes are breeding. I went though my stash and there are quite a few fragrances I don’t remember buying…

Are you blacking out and don’t remember purchasing them? Is someone playing a practical joke on you? How did all these perfumes get in there! 😆

It’s strange, I know! Maybe I suffer from a chronic condition, something like shopper’s blackout? Or hoarder’s denial?

Hoarder’s denial? Nah, that’s not it. 😂😋

Hi, my name is Amy and I’m a beautyhoarder-olic 🙂 I dont know how it happens but my lipstick collection keeps multiplying, they look so pretty I can’t throw them out 🙂 I am however ruthless with my mascaras, I chuck them out after 6 months.

Haha, I KNOW the mask prob. I have an entire drawer in my fridge where I keep sheet masks for the month and then a whole shoebox full of backup in my room. The eyeliner thing though is super clever. It’s always when I’m super late and don’t have time to track down the sharpener that I need it 😂 would be nice to have one handy

Never enough sheet masks! Haha. I definitely feel you on the hoarding thing though. I’ve been (little by little) de-cluttering my life.
I’ve also nominated you for the Liebster award if you care to look 🙂

Also thank you for the award nomination. I won’t be doing an award post, but I think it’s lovely you thought of me! xx

No problem! Also, it slipped my mind yesterday, but do you have a favourite line of sheet mask? I’ve been getting into them lately and am always looking for recommendations!

I’m mainly using Montagne Jeunesse and Superdrug. There are a few Montagne Jeunesse sheet masks but I haven’t tried them yet. But I’ve bought the glacial clay mask after I had found a youtube video (by Montagne Jeunesse) and the ladies testing that mask very actually very happy with it. Now I just need to try that mask! 🙂

I have far too many lipsticks. FAR too many. I can’t even think about it, LOL! However, I made a real effort last week and rationalised them – I put my favs back in the bathroom cabinet, my ‘not so sure’ ones in a cute little bag under the sink which is now stuffed to the brim and I can barely open it, and threw one away. Progress, possibly! 🙂 🙂

I have countless lipsticks too. It’s insane really. I think it’s great that you went through yours to separate your favourites from the ‘mehs’!

Thanks for fessing up! And you’re right, it’s hard to resist a product that’s actually very affordable. 🙂

Hey, fellow beauty hoarder! At least you’re using all these items; that’s a good sign :). I’ve gone through some major de-stash this and last year by selling new items I won’t get to use via the Mercari app and putting together beauty boxes for my sister and girlfriends as gifts! Although de-tashing just means I can buy more items, lol. I mainly hoard Korean beauty products. It’s so satisfying.

So you just transferred your obsession? 😉

I guess I keep equilibrium. I will sell a few beauty products, rejoice from de-clutter but then buy a few more online to replace those…it’s an endless cycle!

Guilty as charged – my problems are nail polish, eyeshadows and face masks. Discovering O2 and Boots were giving out free masks was pretty bad, so I’ll just add them to the pile….

Nail polish and eyeshadows (and palettes) are a problem for me too. How many nail polishes do you reckon you have?

Several hundred. I had a big cull a while ago but I think they’re breeding as there’s still dozens.

I know what you mean. I think I’ve got about 1,300 nail polishes. It’s insane really…

Beauty Hoarders unite! I used to buy a lot of face mask packs too until I found bulk packages of Japanese face masks. They sell 40 sheet masks in one big package, making them less than $1 per mask. A pack of 40 would cost $20-30. A popular one I want to try out is Lululun. >.<

Face masks in bulk?? Oh yeah! I need to check if I find something like this over here!

YES. I am not allowed to use nail polish at work, usually use the same shades BUT IN CASE I have a full shoe box of different colors XD Liners, eyeshadows, mascaras, lashes, creams and all that. Guilty. But it is nearly Halloween, October usually is when I go through my collection and sort between ‘keep and use’, ‘give to friends or sell’ and ‘throw it out!’ 😀

Yeah, I thought that you probably couldn’t wear nail polish at work. How about your hair, make-up and tattoos? Do you have to ‘tone it down’ for work (or do you actually prefer to tone it down for work?) and do you have to cover up your tattoos? Sorry, these questions might seem stupid, but I really have no idea, and I’m so curious!

*g* actually there is a unfinished blogpost on this topic, I seem to not be able to finish it sooooon so: depends on the bosses actually BUT in Germany not a lot of people want to work as geriatric nurse (high level of stress for soul and body, low wages,…) I guess this is bad but also luck for me since I can afford to not take a job where the bosses require toning down too much. I have a slightly less extreme pair of glasses (half frame so it wont get broken if I get hit XD but with spiderweb engravings), less makeup only because of sweating a lot (less foundation, simple eyemakeup), Usually hair is in a pigtail but I also sometimes went with backcombed hair when I felt like it or didn’t have time to unteaze. Tattoos will not be covered because this job makes you sweat and I won’t put on EXTRA clothing, I also tell the bosses in the beginning that there WILL be more tattoos and piercings. Piercings will stay as well because if I get hit it will hurt, no matter if there is a piercing or not. As for clothing, usually the company gives you the clothes if not I will decide what I want to wear. (aka white doc martens, pants that are washable at 60°C max (required). I think it is a bit of toning down… If a company wants a more normal person they will have to take somebody else because they will get me with all me, my exterior but also my heart, my looks won’t change the way I work, only the way I feel. The old ladies and men so far only showed the most amazing reactions, some even went to a piercer or tattoo studio themselves *lol* but yes, there have been some comments or reactions from possible bosses and if they feel bad about people like me they can take somebody else, that’s ok! Same if they are too afraid of what family members of their clients might think abou me. I mean, even if I did tone down, it is only a tiny bit of googling my name and they would see me all gothed up XD
So nope, the questions were not stupid at all and will be answered with pictures as well one day, hopefully I can do it this year *lol*

Wow, that’s detailed! But yeah, I’d definitely like to read a full post where you cover everything.
I know there’s not much money to be made as a geriatric nurse or a carer in general. The work is physically and mentally exhausting and it’s actually a shame the job isn’t paid well. 😦
But I think it’s amazing you’re doing such an important job. xx

Confessed beauty hoarder here. I don’t have hundreds of everything, but I do have way to many items I don’t regularly use and refuse to get rid of. My new mantra: Use what you’ve got, replace what you need. Seems to be working out ok, although terror induced panic attacks do occur when my products are used up at a steady rate and I don’t have a suitable ‘collection’ for back up.

Use what you’ve got, replace what you need. That doesn’t work for me since I’m somehow attracted to half price and buy one get one free promotions. If I see a shiny half price sticker, something happens in my head and I just have to buy.
But I’m glad it works for you. I admire your willpower! And I think it’s awesome that you DON’T have back-ups of everything. Yes, it’s not great when you run out of something and have no back-up, but sometimes it’s OK, especially when you realise that you can actually live without an eye cream, or orange nail polish or whatever. 🙂
Again, well done for shopping reasonably!!
