Poundland Make-Up: MakeUp Gallery Colour Story Eyeshadows

Hi there! When Poundland launched its own make-up collection, women all over the country rushed out to grab a bargain. And just like almost every other woman I too was interesting to find out how Poundland’s own brand make-up would fare.

Poundland ESThe products at my local Poundland sold out almost immediately every time they were restocked, but at some point I was finally able to get my hands on three single eyeshadows and a lipstick.

I’ve now tried these MakeUp Gallery Colour Story Eyeshadows – and I don’t like them at all. I’ll tell you why in a minute, but let me tell you which shades I tried.

From top to bottom, the shades I’ve got are Nude 2, Smoke Screen 13 (matte) and Galaxy Grey 16 (shimmery).

I tried my best to do proper swatches, but the eyeshadows didn’t let me. They’re chalky, they’re not very pigmented and they’re not buildable because they’re so very chalky. Is this a vicious circle or what?!

I applied eight (!) layers of Nude, but the eyeshadow is hardly visible. I also tried to apply this shade with a bit of water and on top of a little lotion, but it hardly made a difference. I encountered the same problem with Smoke Screen and Galaxy Grey. However, I didn’t make as many attempts to present them as favourable as possible.

In all honesty, I really don’t understand why so many women seem to love Poundland’s own brand make-up. I think these eyeshadows are rubbish. I won’t buy them again and I won’t be trying any other shades. Anyway, if you’d like to try these MakeUp Gallery Colour Story Eyeshadows, they’re £1 at Poundland.

MUA MakeUp Academy Eye Shadow 13 Pearl, 23 Pearl, 14 Pearl, 18 Matt

Hi there! Today’s post is about a couple of single eyeshadows I treated myself to during MUA’s last winter sale. Just like MUA’s basic blushers, these eyeshadows were 50p each! So what have we got… from left to right: Shade 13 Pearl, Shade 23 Pearl, Shade 14 Pearl and Shade 18 Matt.
MUA Eyeshadow
Shade 13 Pearl is a deep purple with a chrome-like shimmer. The same shade is also featured in I Heart MakeUp’s Passion palette. Shade 23 Pearl is a vivid and sparkly light blue. I don’t think this shade will look good on me, but I’ll give it a try.

MUA EyeshadowUp next is Shade 14 Pearl, a dark grey with plenty of green shimmer which makes me think of a forest at night time. 🙂 And then there’s Shade 18 Matt, a fresh and bright lilac with great colour payoff.

The eyeshadows are of good quality. Well, they’re MUA, of course they’re good. Now all I have to do is use them every once in a while. 🙂

Miss Sporty Studio Colour Duo Eye Shadow 204 Babe

Hi there! I’ve added a nother mini eyeshadow duo to my beauty stash. This is Miss Sporty Studio Colour Duo Eye Shadow 204 Babe. I got this one for 50p, so I won’t moan about how disappointed I was when I realised this was a sparkly eye duo (I swear it looked matte in store). Anyway, I managed to work it into my routine.  🙂

I would describe the two eyeshadows as a pale lavender and a soft purple. I’ve taken photos with and without flash. For some reason the shimmer doesn’t show up in the bottom swatch (no flash), but you can trust me, it’s there. And it’s quite prominent.

In terms of quality, I’m happy with the intensity of the colours and that they stay put. They’re just as good as Rimmel or Sleek eyeshadows. Whilst I wouldn’t do an eye make-up with these two shades only, I’ve done a few nice looks combining these two with greens and neutrals from my Garden of Eden palette.

I believe Miss Sporty Studio Colour Duo Eye Shadow 204 Babe has been discontinued, but you might still find it online or in a bargain store.

Manhattan Multi Effect Eyeshadow 92W Caramel Fudge, Manhattan Intense Effect Eyeshadow 21A Devil Honey

Hi there! This post is about two random eyeshadows which I bought as a set of two in Poundland (could have been Poundworld – I’m not sure). The shimmery brown one is Manhattan Multi Effect Eyeshadow 92W Caramel Fudge, and the sparkly golden one is Manhattan Intense Effect Eyeshadow 21A Devil Honey.

(I know, the swatch photo isn’t my best, but Devil Honey simply wouldn’t show without flash. But you can click on the photo to enlarge it.) In terms of quality I’m very happy with these eyeshadows. They’re easy incredibly silky, they last long, the colours are intense and easily blendable. I love to mix these two with other shades from my Sleek Au Naturel palette because these two would fit right in.

I’ve seen lots of different Manhattan products at the bargain stores recently. If you keep your eyes peeled, you might not only find single items for £1, but also sets of two products for £1.
