Empties – June 2021

Hi there! It’s the first of a new month (wow, halfway through the year already…), and this means that today’s post is about all the products I finished last month. As always, I used a bunch of single-use face masks, and you can read about my latest face mask finds if you click here. Now, let’s look at the big bottles, tubes and tubs!

1 Agent Provocateur Fatale Eau De Parfum (50ml) – what a beautiful fragrance! I’ve already repurchased it – and I went for the big 100ml bottle this time!

2 Boots Vitamin C Brightening Cleansing Gel – this is a good face wash. But the strong yuzu scent put me off, and that’s why I won’t repurchase this face wash.

3 Anna Sui L’Amour Rose Versailles Eau De Parfum – this is a really nice fragrance, and I enjoyed wearing it very much, but I won’t buy it again.

4 Harmony Hair Indulgence Herbal Conditioner With Ginseng Extract – I loved this conditioner (and the matching shampoo) so much! I’m sad this line has been discontinued. 😢

5 Imperial Leather Tropical Rainforest & Exotic Papaya Shower Gel – I love this shower gel! Repurchase? Yes!

6 Imperial Leather Cotton Clouds & White Cashmere Shower Cream – this shower gel is very good too, and I hope to buy it again soon.

7 Sanctuary Spa Heel Balm – a very good product. It’s too expensive, so I won’t buy it on its own, but I’d be delighted to find it in another Sanctuary Spa gift set.

8 Radox Mineral Therapy Muscle Soak Bath Salts – I really enjoyed these bath salts. I will buy them again!

9 Westlab Mindful Epsom & Himalayan Salts With Frankincense & Bergamot – these were good but not great. I might buy them again for half price, but I might not.

10 Westlab Cleansing Himalayan Salt – I like these a lot. Whilst these salts are unscented, they make my skin feel amazing. I enjoy using these on their own or mixed in with scented bath salts. I will buy these bath salts again, no doubt!

And this is everything for this month. Not a huge number of products, but finishing bath salts (those Westlab ones are 1kg each) frees up a lot of space under the sink! I expect a bit of skin care to finish next month, and at least 4 shower gels as well, so there should be more than 10 products in total.

Boots Vitamin C Brightening Cleansing Gel

Hi there! Today’s post is about this Boots Vitamin C Brightening Cleansing Gel for all skin types.

This face wash promises to cleanse skin deeply without drying it out, and it also claims to achieve brighter looking skin within 14 days.

I started to use this product just under 2 weeks ago, and I think it’s good but not great.

I’m using this face wash with a konjac sponge, and I found that a tiny drop will lather up very well. Great if you don’t want to use a lot of product.

I can’t comment on whether this face wash is indeed brightening. I’ve been using glycolic acid products for a while now, and I’m not expecting a face wash to outperform those products. But if you’re not using any other brightening products, I think this face wash might be good starter product.

I am very happy with how well this face wash cleanses my skin. It leaves my skin feeling and looking clean and refreshed.

At the same time, I’m very happy to confirm that the face wash doesn’t feel drying at all, so it’s definitely suitable for my very dry and moody skin. Well done, Boots!

However, here’s the big but – the scent. The face wash doesn’t smell bad or artificial. But it smells very strongly of yuzu. I’ve used yuzu-scented products for the past few months, and I can’t stand them anymore. I usually love all things citrus, but I’m literally done with yuzu-scented stuff. I might change my mind at some point in the future. And the next person might love how this face wash smells – so this is not the most objective finding. But because of its scent, I won’t repurchase this face wash.

Having said this, I think that, in most aspects, this is a really good face wash, and I’d recommend it (unless you’re not keen on yuzu-scented products either).

Boots Vitamin C Brightening Cleansing Gel is available as 100ml for £4. Mine was free (3 for 2 offer, and this was the freebie I chose on top of the other 2 products I bought that day!).

Boots Vitamin C Sheet Mask With Added Vitamin C

Hi there! Today’s post is about this Boots Vitamin C Sheet Mask With Added Vitamin C. This mask is aimed at all skin types, and it promises deep nourishment for smooth and radiant skin. It also claims to leave skin brighter within 14 days – but this claim seems to be misplaced here; I assume this is the catchphrase for the entire Vitamin C collection, and it would make more sense for the other products which are meant for daily use, i.e. face wash, moisturiser, etc.

Anyhoo… this is a regular sheet mask. Cleanse your face before you use it! This sheet mask is supposed to be left on for 15 minutes, and after you’ve taken it off, you’re supposed to massage the leftover essence into your skin.

I’ve given this mask a try, and I think it’s very good! I’m using a number of different brightening products at the moment, so at this point it’s hard to say which product does what, but the mask feels very refreshing and hydrating. I enjoyed the cool feel of the mask, and I was over the moon to find that it hydrated my skin deeply without leaving a sticky film behind. The essence in this mask is simply perfect! On another note, this product is vegan and cruelty-free which is great too!

Based on my experience, I’d recommend this face mask. Boots Vitamin C Sheet Mask With Added Vitamin C is available as a 23g single-use face mask for £1.50. Boots runs 3 for 2 promotions on own brand products frequently – and I made use of this offer, so I paid £3 for 3 of these masks.
