100% Vegan & Cruelty-Free – Superdrug Optimum Skin Illuminating Glycolic Overnight Peel

Hi there! Today’s post is about Superdrug’s Optimum Skin Illuminating Glycolic Overnight Peel. This product promises to refine, firm and plump the skin, to make fine lines and wrinkles appear smoother, and to enhance and improve the natural skin tone for a radiant and more youthful looking complexion.

All you have to do is apply a small amount of product to your face before you go to bed, and wash it off the next morning. I’ve been using this product at least 4 – 5 times a week since October, so let me tell you more about it. 🙂

I really like this product! The gel texture is nice and easy to use. It feels a little sticky on the face, but I’m OK with that. I also think that this glycolic peel is effective because it makes my skin look more relaxed and more refreshed. Nice!

But the big question is… is this glycolic overnight peel better than Superdrug’s other glycolic overnight peel? I would say… no! I think they’re equally good. This one looks fancier, but the other glycolic peel is a lot cheaper. So whilst I really like this product, I think I’ll continue to buy the cheaper one because it gives me the same results.

Superdrug’s Optimum Skin Illuminating Glycolic Overnight Peel is available as 30ml for £12.99. I paid £6.45 (half price offer). This product carries the Leaping Bunny logo which means that it’s cruelty-free. In addition, this product is also vegan.

100% Cruelty-Free – Montagne Jeunesse Cranberry Kiss Peel Off

Hi there! Today’s post is about a Christmas-themed face mask – Montagne Jeunesse Cranberry Kiss Peel Off.

This face mask is like every other peel off mask. Apply the mask, let it dry (for about 15 minutes), peel it off, and rinse off any residue.

Is the mask any good? I think this mask is quite alright. It does what it’s supposed to do, which is perfectly fine. But it’s not groundbreaking. I’ve had better face masks.

I’m also quite sure that I’ve had this mask before. It seems like this is one of Montagne Jeunesse’s older or even regular face masks that’s been repackaged.

Anyway, if you’re interested, this face mask is available for 90p at Primark. Montagne Jeunesse Cranberry Kiss Peel Off is also certified cruelty-free!

Anatomicals Farewell The Scarlet Pimplehell Deep Cleansing Mud Mask

Hi there! Today’s post is about a face mask that I recently tried – Anatomicals Farewell The Scarlet Pimplehell Deep Cleansing Mud Mask. This mask is 1 of the 3 masks in Anatomicals’ Now You’re Ready To Face The World mask set. I’ve already reviewed the other 2 masks from the set, and you can read the reviews here and here.

I think that Farewell The Scarlet Pimplehell is a great name for a face mask. It sounds fun. And it sounds promising. I’ve tried this mask and I’m reasonably happy with it. It’s a fairly standard mud mask. It doesn’t smell very fancy, and its colour is grey. But it cleanses my skin nicely, and that’s the most important thing.

All in all I’m happy with Anatomicals’ Now You’re Ready To Face The World trio mask set. I’m pretty sure I’ll buy the set again. Anatomicals’ Now You’re Ready To Face The World trio mask set is available for £3 at Superdrug. I paid £2 only for the set (Save 1/3 offer).

By the way, this week is face mask week on my blog. This means that I’ll post 7 face mask reviews this week. I hope you’ll enjoy face mask week! Feel free to get in touch. And thanks for reading! 🙂

Beauty Formulas Rejuvenating Glorious Mud Facial Mask

Beauty Formulas Mud MaskHi there! Today’s post is about this £1 Beauty Formulas Rejuvenating Glorious Mud Facial Mask that I found at Poundworld.

This face mask promises to remove dirt and excess oils from the skin’s surface and to absorb impurities. It also promises to unclog pores and to remove dead skin cells for a fresh skin glow.

Is this mask any good? Yes, absolutely! I think this is a reasonable face mask.

In the beginning the soapy fragrance threw me a little because I was expecting a chocolatey fragrance (yeah, my fault). However, the soapy fragrance is perfectly alright.

I’m also happy with what the mask does to my face because it makes my skin look and feel clearer.

My husband is equally pleased with this face mask. Whilst he thinks that the mask smells a little girly, he’s happy to use it once a week too. Awesome!

Have you tried this mask? If so, how do you like it? Feel free to get in touch via the comments. And thanks for reading! 🙂

Anatomicals Grease Isn’t The Word (Tell Me More, Tell Me More) Mattifying Face Mask

Hi there! Today I’m reviewing Anatomicals’ Grease Isn’t The Word (Tell Me More, Tell Me More) Mattifying Face Mask. This mask is 1 of the 3 face masks in Anatomicals’ Now You’re Ready To Face The World trio mask set. I picked up this mask set because the design looked fun. 😉 And it was on special (Save 1/3 offer), so there was no point in not buying it. Alright, now onto the review…

This Anatomicals mask is a regular clay mask. It’s not as thick as the masks that I’m used to (Montagne Jeunesse, Superdrug, Boots). However, I’m OK with this. This mask is mint green in colour (which looks quite cool), and I would describe its fragrance as soapy – it smells alright, but I don’t love the fragrance.

I’m satisfied that this mask cleanses my pores properly, but it doesn’t have a mattifying effect. But then, how could a rinse-off product really have a mattifying effect? Anyway… all in all, this is a reasonable face mask. If the other 2 masks from this set turn out to be equally good, I can definitely see myself buying this mask set again.

Anatomicals’ Now You’re Ready To Face The World trio mask set is available for £3 at Superdrug. I paid £2 only for the set (Save 1/3 offer).

100% Cruelty-Free – Montagne Jeunesse Raspberry Smoothie

upload-4Hi there! Today’s post is about this “exclusive” Montagne Jeunesse Raspberry Smoothie face mask (Primark, 90p!).

This face mask promises an antioxidant boost for fresher and softer skin. Does it work? I think this mask is OK. It’s like a regular clay mask.

I think this mask cleansed my skin well. However, I didn’t like its fragrance at all. The mango & raspberry fragrance smells like a cheap multi-vitamin juice.

There’s nothing wrong with the quality of this face mask, but I won’t buy it again because of its smell.

Montagne Jeunesse’s Raspberry Smoothie face mask is certified cruelty-free. It carries the Leaping Bunny logo and it’s approved by the Vegetarian Society.

100% Cruelty-Free – Montagne Jeunesse Glacial Clay Spa

Montagne Jeunesse Glacial Clay SpaHi there! I’ve never used a fabric or sheet mask – even though I’ve wanted to try one for ages.

But now I’ve finally given Montagne Jeunesse’s Glacial Clay Spa a try.

This face mask is a clay-infused fabric mask that’s supposed to be left on the skin for 15 to 20 minutes.

It contains clay, cloudberry juice (?) and red grape extracts – 3 ingredients which promise clean and clear skin.

I found this fabric mask surprisingly easy to use. The mask stayed put and it didn’t give me any trouble at all.

And I really liked its cool feel and its fresh, green fragrance. Very ‘home spa’. Awesome stuff!

After about 20 minutes I took the mask off, and I used it to give my face a good (yet gentle) scrub. The result was clean and clear skin – absolutely brilliant!

I would definitely recommend this fabric mask. It reallt works. I’ll be buying this mask again, and now I want to try Montagne Jeunesse’s other fabric masks too.

If you’re interested, Montagne Jeunesse’s Glacial Clay Spa is available for about £1 (I bought mine at Home Bargains on a 3 for £2 deal). In addition, this mask is suitable for vegetarians and it’s 100% cruelty-free.

100% Cruelty-Free – Montagne Jeunesse Wild Strawberry Peel Off Face Mask

upload-1Hi there! Over the past few weeks I’ve reviewed quite a few Superdrug face masks. So I think it’s time for another Montagne Jeunesse face mask!

Now meet Montagne Jeunesse Wild Strawberry Peel Off with natural wild strawberry and rhubarb extracts.

This mask is a peel-off mask. You apply it, you let it dry for about 15 to 20 minutes, then you peel it off, and then you rinse off any residue.

How’s this mask? I think it’s alright. It’s just as good as any other peel-off mask.

However, I don’t love the fragrance. The rhubarb scent is quite strong, and the strawberry note is cloyingly sweet. I wouldn’t buy this face mask again – but that’s only because I don’t care for its fragrance.

If you’d like to try this mask, you can pick it up for £1 (give or take a few pence, depending on where you shop) at Poundstores, Boots, Asda, pharmacies, etc. This mask carries the Leaping Bunny logo – it’s certified cruelty-free!

You Need This In Your Life – Superdrug Dehydrated Facial Konjac Sponge

Hi there! Today’s post is about my new favourite beauty accessory – Superdrug’s Dehydrated Facial Konjac Sponge. I didn’t know what to expect because I’ve never used a konjac sponge before. I know they’ve been around for a while, but over the past couple of weeks I’ve read several blog posts in which fellow bloggers mentioned how much they loved their konjac sponges – and all of a sudden I wanted one! 🙂

And now I have my konjac sponge! Well, I bought 3 sponges – but there was a 3 for 2 offer. OK, let’s get to the product. This konjac sponge is made from pure vegetable fibres – I’m assuming it would be suitable for vegans. The sponge is dehydrated, so it has to be soaked in water for a few minutes before it can be used for the first time. But this is a one-time-thing, and from then on all you need to do is rinse the sponge under the tab for a few seconds – and it will be ready for use.
superdrug-konjac-sponge
And what does the sponge do? This konjac sponge promises to exfoliate and to cleanse skin, and to improve circulation for clear and soft skin. And does it work? Yes, absolutely! All you have to do is use the sponge on your face – the same way you’d use any other sponge, flannel or washcloth.

Does it work with cleansing products? Yes. You can apply a drop of cleansing milk or face wash (or whatever you use to remove your make-up or to cleanse your face) to the moist sponge. Just rub it all over your face and you’ll see that it removes make-up, dirt and dead skin cells very well. Your skin will look and feel soft and clear. Awesome stuff!

Another good thing is that konjac sponges are gentle enough for daily use. Whilst harsh scrubs can damage skin, konjac sponges are perfectly suitable for dry, sensitive and flaky skin. And even people with rosacea can use them – because apparently they don’t irritate skin – at least that’s what a dermatologist told Allure magazine (I refer to this article). Personally, I believe these sponges are perfect for every day use – and I’ve made them part of my cleansing routine.

More good stuff: Konjac sponges are all natural, so when they fall apart you can compost them. 🙂 I’ll continue to use Superdrug’s konjac sponges – they’re £1.99 each, so they’re much better value than the “cheap” ones you can find on that auction web site or that online marketplace. 😉

Feel free to let me know what you think of konjac sponges. Do you love them too? For how long have you been using them? Or if you’ve never used konjac sponges before, will you give them a try? Please let me know your thoughts. And thanks for reading!

100% Vegan & Cruelty-Free – Superdrug Clearly Youthful AHA / BHA Exfoliating Cream Cleanser

Superdrug Clearly Youthful Cream CleanserHi there! I bought lots of Superdrug own brand products recently – with all those half price offers and triple points I couldn’t resist.

One of the products I’m currently using is Superdrug’s Clearly Youthful AHA / BHA Exfoliating Cream Cleanser which claims to target skin ageing and problem skin.

Superdrug says… (and I’m almost quoting from the back of the tube) apply this cream cleanser to a cotton wool pad and (gently) wipe it across the face – avoiding the delicate eye area – until all (unspecified) residue has been removed.

Superdrug also recommends that this cleanser be used alongside other products from the Clearly Youthful range.

Unfortunately Superdrug doesn’t mention whether the cream cleanser is supposed to be left on the skin to work its magic overnight – or whether it’s OK (or even recommended) to wash it off or to use a toner. The thing is that there’s no toner in the Clearly Youthful range – otherwise it would have been a no-brainer!

I know not everyone likes to tone or moisturise after cleansing. But I always tone and moisturise after I’ve removed my make-up, no matter whether I use a face wash or a cleansing milk. Now, if you just thought “so use a toner”, I hear you! However, I’m still wondering whether I’m missing out on some of the benefits this product promises because I still have no idea what the manufacturer of this cream cleanser would recommend…

Anyway, now let me tell you about my experience with this cream cleanser. The first thing I noticed was the product’s smell. It’s strong, it’s unpleasant and it reminds me of a mix of stale beer and overly ripe fruit. Apparently this is what the sum of all the ingredients smells like.

When I used this cleanser on my face, I felt a tingling sensation. I didn’t notice any redness or any other unpleasant reaction. But I knew that I really couldn’t let this product get anywhere near my eyes. And whilst this cream cleanser did a good job removing most of my make-up, I was a little annoyed that I had to use another product to remove my eye make-up. And I need to mention the smell again – wow, it really lingered!

I’ve been using this cream cleanser several times now. And I tried different ways to make it work for me. But I’m not really happy with it. As I don’t want to be wasteful, I’ll continue to use it. However, I’ll limit the use of this cream cleanser to make-up free days (= when I don’t leave the house) like homeworking days and the odd Saturday or Sunday. And when I use this cleanser, I use it as a mask in the morning – this way I get to wash it off in the shower half an hour later.

Since I’m using this cream cleanser a few times per week only, I can’t comment on whether it really delivers on its ‘anti-ageing’ and ‘clear skin’ promises. I have to admit that my skin looks a lot better (brighter, clearer, more even) than it did four weeks ago, and I’ve only had two tiny spots in these four weeks. But I don’t think my on/off use of this cream cleanser is anything more than a minor contributing factor. I think Superdrug’s Naturally Radiant products deserve the credit!

I know I won’t be repurchasing this cream cleanser. But I acknowledge that it seems to work well for some people – all the reviews on Superdrug’s web site are very favourable. So if you’d like to try Superdrug’s Clearly Youthful AHA / BHA Exfoliating Cream Cleanser, you can pick up a 150ml tube for £3.69. I paid £1.79 only (half price offer), so keep your eyes peeled for promotions to get the best deal.

Thanks for reading! Have a good day! 🙂
