Nail Of The Day – Ciaté Cabaret & Foils

Hi there! Today’s post is a Nail Of The Day post.

For this mani, which I did about 2 weeks ago, I painted my nails with Ciate Cabaret (2 coats).

I’m not the biggest Ciaté fan, but this colour is really lovely. This particular bottle is finished now – well, there’s about 1ml of goopy polish left, but I can’t do anything with it. 🤷‍♀️

For the colourful accents I used some of my leftover rainbow foil.

I really liked this mani. I even filled in the tips and applied top coat daily to make the mani last longer!

Nail Of The Day – Revlon Matte Suede 863 Ruby Ribbon & Gold Foils

Hi there! I have a Nail Of The Day post for you today.

For this mani I painted my nails with Revlon Matte Suede 863 Ruby Ribbon (2 coats). This is one of my oldest unloved polishes. 😄 When I bought it, I had no idea what matte suede even meant in terms of nail polish.

When I used this polish for the first time, I was disappointed because it dried down to a matte and streaky mess. It was incredibly ugly.

Now back to today’s mani! I used gold foil to give the plain burgundy shade some sparkle. And 1 coat of clear polish added extra shine. I liked this mani – and I will do more foil manis over the next few weeks.

Nail Of The Day – Rimmel 60 Seconds 803 Man Overboard & Foils / 31 Day Nail Art Challenge #9 Rainbow Nails

Hi there! This is another mani I did for the 31 Days Nail Art Challenge (which I’m doing again – on my own terms). This is for challenge #9 RAINBOW NAILS.

For this mani I painted my nails with Rimmel 60 Seconds 803 Man Overboard (2 coats). This is a decent grey polish. In the bottle it looks like a medium grey, but it’s actually more of a medium to dark grey. This isn’t terrible, but I was trying to go for a “grey sky” look which would have looked better with a lighter shade of grey. Ah well…

For the rainbow effects I used colourful foils. If you’d like to try foil nails the easy way, check out this easy to follow tutorial.

How To Do Foil Manicures The Easy Way – A Pictorial

Hi there! Today’s post is about how to do foil manis. It’s super easy! See it for yourself!

1 Paint your nails. Any normal polish and colour will do. Avoid quick-dry formulas.

2 Wait for your nails to dry. Once the polish is dry to the touch but still tacky (you need to be able to leave a fingerprint), it’s the perfect base for a scattered foil mani.

3 Press a piece of foil onto your nail. Try to “rub on” the foil gently. Then rip it off – like a plaster. Don’t try to pull off the foil gently as it will take the polish with it. If this happens, don’t panic. Just reapply the polish, wait for it to dry, and try again.

4 Repeat as needed / wanted. 🙂 Use different colours if you want… the possibilities are endless!

5 Once you feel your nail is all foiled up (yeah, I just made that up), your work is almost done. Don’t worry about fingerprints, they’re part of the process. 🙂

6 Apply 1 coat of normal clear polish or top coat as this will make your nails look and feel 100% smooth (bye-bye fingerprints) and glossy within seconds. Avoid quick-dry formulas as they will shrink the foils (which isn’t a good look at all). You can achieve 2 finishes – see the tips and tricks section below!

Now your work is literally done! How easy is this?! I’ve done foil nails for many years. Back then all I had was polish and foils, but none of the “tools” they say you need. But guess what, I didn’t need any of the tools, and it took me 5 minutes to figure out how to do foil manis using polish and foils only. And you can do it too!

On to the tips and tricks!

With this simple method you can achieve 2 finishes – the scattered foil mani (pics 1 and 3 above) and a more “galaxy” kind of foil mani (pic 2 above). For the first look, just apply your top coat as you normally would. For the second look, apply your top coat in a slow, dragging motion, so that the nail polish brush will drag the foil particles all over your nails. 🙂

Again, don’t use any quick dry formulas. You can’t work with quick-dry base colours because the foils need to stick to a tacky surface, and you can’t use quick-dry top coats because they will literally distort the foils underneath.

Don’t buy too many foils. I know that, when you start to use foils, it’s tempting to buy way more foils than you need. Don’t. Just don’t. Start with a set of 30 strips of 10cmx4cm foils with different colours and designs, and start to practise with whatever foil you think is the ugliest. That way you won’t feel too bad about wasting product if things don’t work out 100% the first time. 🙂

If you’re not sure what and where to buy, I would recommend this particular set of foils for £1.99. This set is cheap, but it will give you a number of different foils to play with. I’ve bought a lot (!) of stuff from this ebay seller over several years – foils, decals, glitter, buttons, etc, and I’ve always been 100% happy.

There’s one more thing. Don’t ever throw away any leftover foil. I promise you that you will make the most beautiful manis or accent nails using leftover foils. In the pic below you see a piece of a large 20cmx20cm piece of foil. I used this exact “leftover” piece to make a number of awesome manis, such as this one and next Wednesday’s foil mani (you have to patient).

So what are you waiting for? If you’d like to try nail foils, let me know. I’d love to see your creations. Keep in mind, all you need is a starter kit consisting of at least 1 clear drugstore polish (which can work as a base too if you only want colourful foil accents) and a couple of cheap foils. Again, what are you waiting for?! 🙂

Nail Of The Day – Ciaté Dangerous Affair & Foils

Hi there! Here’s another mani post. 🙂

For this mani I painted my nails with Ciaté Dangerous Affair (4 coats). This is another low quality polish from Ciaté. I don’t know why I keep buying the Ciaté Mini Mani Month Calendars…

If you like the dark red colour, try Rimmel Salon Pro 391 Celebrity Bash, or Essence Colour Boost 09 Instant Passion which is opaque in 1 coat!

Back to this mani… Even after 4 coats Ciaté’s Dangerous Affair looked pretty ugly (you really need a top coat with this polish), so I decided to beautify the mani with the help of golf foil. Tadaaa! Mani saved! 🙂

Do you like foil manis? Which colour nail polish are you wearing at the moment? Feel free to comment. And thanks for reading!

Nail Of The Day – Hello Kitty Raspberry & Foils / A-Z Nail Art Challenge Encore – Recreate A Favourite (V – Vibrant Nails)

Hi there! I’ve got a Nail Of The Day post for you today!

For this mani I painted my nails with my raspberry-coloured Hello Kitty polish (2 coats). I like this polish because the formula is a dream to work with, and the colour is super pretty! 🙂

I decided to beautify my nails with the help of foils. I chose a random leftover gold foil and a transparent holographic foil. Then I applied 1 coat of clear polish. Job done!

I’m including this mani in the A-Z Nail Art Challenge. The individual challenge is called Encore – Recreate A Favourite. And the challenge I’ve chosen to redo is V – Vibrant Nails.

I liked this mani. The base colour is simply gorgeous, and the foils effects are quite eye-catching! How do you like this mani? Is this a mani you’d sport? Feel free to comment. And thanks for stopping by!

This mani is also my attempt at Diva Nails which is part of the A-Z Nail Art Challenge which I’m doing for no one but myself!

So… I painted my nails with Essence Colour Boost 09 Instant Passion (1 coat). And I used some leftover gold foil to add a little sparkle to my nails. Then one coat of clear polish – job done! 🙂

Nail Of The Day – Rimmel Lasting Finish Pro 430 Black Satin & Foils

Hi there! Today’s post is about a mani I did a few months ago.

I’ve wanted to do a foil tutorial for ages, and I wanted to use this photo for said tutorial, but I haven’t had the time to put everything together. But I hope to do a proper tutorial next month!

Alright, back to this mani! I painted my nails with Rimmel Lasting Finish Pro 430 Black Satin (2 coats). I like this black polish!

And whilst this polish looked nice on its own, I wanted more than plain black nails. So I used blue and fuchsia foils to add some colour to my nails. Job done!

I was very happy with how this mani turned out. Do you agree? Feel free to comment. And thanks for reading!

Nail Of The Day – Rimmel 60 Seconds 820 Hot Black To Go & Foils

upload-2Hi there! Today’s post is another Nail Of The Day post. 🙂

For this mani I painted my nails with Rimmel 60 Seconds 820 Hot Black To Go. Whilst this polish doesn’t dry in 60 seconds (or 120, or 180…), I do like it!

Hot Black To Go is almost a one-coater (I need to try if it stamps!), and it’s perfect for foil manis! 🙂 But let’s move on… for this mani I used a colourful foil (with a somewhat psychedelic pattern) which I applied several ‘layers’ of.

How does this work? It’s super easy. All you have to do is press the foils onto the near-dry-yet-still-tacky nail polish and peel them off again – it’s almost like ripping off a band aid! 😀

I think this mani turned out alright. It’s considerably more colourful than intended, but I couldn’t help myself. I just kept adding to it! Also, many apologies for the so-so picture. Foil manis can be difficult to capture on camera, and they can look ‘rough’ in pictures – but they’ll always look better in real life.

I’ll do a tutorial on foils shortly! It’s going to be fun, I promise. And it’s super easy to do! Feel free to comment. And thanks for stopping by! 🙂

Nail Of The Day – NYC In A Minute 001 Evil & Foils

uploadHi there! I haven’t done a foil mani in ages – and I don’t even know why. So, finally, I did another one!

At first I painted my nails with NYC In A Minute 001 Evil. Not too long ago, when I couldn’t find my black Revlon Colorstay polish, I used this polish for stamping. However, 001 Evil is better for actual nail painting than for stamping.

Since I have many leftover foils in different colours, choosing the right colours wasn’t easy. I started with a gold foil which made the mani look christmassey right away. So to avoid an unseasonably christmassey finish, I used blue and fuchsia foils too.

I’m happy with how the mani turned out. And I got several compliments which made me realise I need to do foil manis more often. I might do another one in a few days. Feel free to let me know what you think. And thank for reading! 🙂
