Nail Of The Day – Rimmel 60 Seconds 605 Purple Reign & Rainbow Foils

Hi there! I hope you had a good weekend! Today’s post is about a mani I did the other week.

For this mani I painted my nails with Rimmel 60 Seconds 605 Purple Reign (2 coats).

This is a beautiful shade of purple. I like it a lot! I’m also very happy with how quickly this polish dries – no complaints here.

I used a some rainbow foil to add some colour to this mani, and I really liked the result.

If you’ve never done foil manis, but would like to give it a try, I did a pictorial which explains the process in 6 easy steps. 🙂

Nail Of The Day – Ciaté Cabaret & Foils

Hi there! Today’s post is a Nail Of The Day post.

For this mani, which I did about 2 weeks ago, I painted my nails with Ciate Cabaret (2 coats).

I’m not the biggest Ciaté fan, but this colour is really lovely. This particular bottle is finished now – well, there’s about 1ml of goopy polish left, but I can’t do anything with it. 🤷‍♀️

For the colourful accents I used some of my leftover rainbow foil.

I really liked this mani. I even filled in the tips and applied top coat daily to make the mani last longer!

Nail Of The Day – Revlon Nail Art Neon 140 Pink Glow & Gold Foil

Hi there! Since this week is Nail Week, I have a Nail Of The Day post for you today.

For this mani I painted my nails with Revlon Nail Art Neon 140 Pink Glow – 2 coats of the white polish and 3 coats of the coral polish.

Wait, what? 5 coats of polish? Yes! The white polish was very streaky, and the coral polish was super thin. Awful!

Once dry, the coral polish felt and looked strangely chalky. Yikes! So how could I save the mani? With gold foil – wedged between 2 coats of clear polish!

I did like the look of the mani, and I wore it for 4 days because of the time (drying time) and effort (8 coats of polish) I spent on it.

What colour nail polish are you wearing at the moment? Feel free to get in touch via the comments, and thanks for stopping by!

Nail Of The Day – Rimmel Salon Pro 391 Celebrity Bash & Foils

Hi there! Today’s post is about a foil mani I did a little while ago.

For this mani I painted my nails with Rimmel Salon Pro 391 Celebrity Bash (2 easy coats).

I’m not the biggest fan of red nail polish, but this one is lovely – on its own and when used in nail art.

This time I opted for colourful nail foils. Whilst the photo isn’t the greatest, the mani looked very cute in real life.

Nail Of The Day – Essence Colour Boost 04 Instant Love & Rainbow Foils

Hi there! Today’s post is about a mani I did ages ago.

For this mani I painted my nails with Essence Colour Boost 04 Instant Love (1 coat). This polish is part of a “1 Coat & Go” collection which consists of 10 polishes. I bought them all because I thought they’d make great stamping polishes – and I was right!

But Essence discontinued the entire collection quite soon after the launch. My guess is they realised the polishes were simply too good to be sold for £1.80 a piece.

Anyhoo… for the colourful accents I used a small piece of leftover rainbow foil. I liked the mani a lot, and I can’t wait to do more foil manis soon!

Nail Of The Day – Rimmel Salon Pro 712 Rhythm & Blue AND Foils

Hi there! I have another short Nail Of The Day post for you today.

For this mani I painted my nails with Rimmel Salon Pro 712 Rhythm & Blues (2 coats). This is an almost-black shade with a creamy finish. It’s beautiful!

I used rainbow foils for the accents – yellow / gold, red, pink, green and blue – it’s all there. 😍

Whilst I did like this mani, it was nothing special. I’ve done better foil manis. I’ve also taken better photos of manis, but for some reason it was impossible to get the perfect photo of this mani. Ah well, onto the next mani…

Nail Of The Day – Rimmel 60 Seconds 803 Man Overboard & Foils / 31 Day Nail Art Challenge #9 Rainbow Nails

Hi there! This is another mani I did for the 31 Days Nail Art Challenge (which I’m doing again – on my own terms). This is for challenge #9 RAINBOW NAILS.

For this mani I painted my nails with Rimmel 60 Seconds 803 Man Overboard (2 coats). This is a decent grey polish. In the bottle it looks like a medium grey, but it’s actually more of a medium to dark grey. This isn’t terrible, but I was trying to go for a “grey sky” look which would have looked better with a lighter shade of grey. Ah well…

For the rainbow effects I used colourful foils. If you’d like to try foil nails the easy way, check out this easy to follow tutorial.

How To Do Foil Manicures The Easy Way – A Pictorial

Hi there! Today’s post is about how to do foil manis. It’s super easy! See it for yourself!

1 Paint your nails. Any normal polish and colour will do. Avoid quick-dry formulas.

2 Wait for your nails to dry. Once the polish is dry to the touch but still tacky (you need to be able to leave a fingerprint), it’s the perfect base for a scattered foil mani.

3 Press a piece of foil onto your nail. Try to “rub on” the foil gently. Then rip it off – like a plaster. Don’t try to pull off the foil gently as it will take the polish with it. If this happens, don’t panic. Just reapply the polish, wait for it to dry, and try again.

4 Repeat as needed / wanted. 🙂 Use different colours if you want… the possibilities are endless!

5 Once you feel your nail is all foiled up (yeah, I just made that up), your work is almost done. Don’t worry about fingerprints, they’re part of the process. 🙂

6 Apply 1 coat of normal clear polish or top coat as this will make your nails look and feel 100% smooth (bye-bye fingerprints) and glossy within seconds. Avoid quick-dry formulas as they will shrink the foils (which isn’t a good look at all). You can achieve 2 finishes – see the tips and tricks section below!

Now your work is literally done! How easy is this?! I’ve done foil nails for many years. Back then all I had was polish and foils, but none of the “tools” they say you need. But guess what, I didn’t need any of the tools, and it took me 5 minutes to figure out how to do foil manis using polish and foils only. And you can do it too!

On to the tips and tricks!

With this simple method you can achieve 2 finishes – the scattered foil mani (pics 1 and 3 above) and a more “galaxy” kind of foil mani (pic 2 above). For the first look, just apply your top coat as you normally would. For the second look, apply your top coat in a slow, dragging motion, so that the nail polish brush will drag the foil particles all over your nails. 🙂

Again, don’t use any quick dry formulas. You can’t work with quick-dry base colours because the foils need to stick to a tacky surface, and you can’t use quick-dry top coats because they will literally distort the foils underneath.

Don’t buy too many foils. I know that, when you start to use foils, it’s tempting to buy way more foils than you need. Don’t. Just don’t. Start with a set of 30 strips of 10cmx4cm foils with different colours and designs, and start to practise with whatever foil you think is the ugliest. That way you won’t feel too bad about wasting product if things don’t work out 100% the first time. 🙂

If you’re not sure what and where to buy, I would recommend this particular set of foils for £1.99. This set is cheap, but it will give you a number of different foils to play with. I’ve bought a lot (!) of stuff from this ebay seller over several years – foils, decals, glitter, buttons, etc, and I’ve always been 100% happy.

There’s one more thing. Don’t ever throw away any leftover foil. I promise you that you will make the most beautiful manis or accent nails using leftover foils. In the pic below you see a piece of a large 20cmx20cm piece of foil. I used this exact “leftover” piece to make a number of awesome manis, such as this one and next Wednesday’s foil mani (you have to patient).

So what are you waiting for? If you’d like to try nail foils, let me know. I’d love to see your creations. Keep in mind, all you need is a starter kit consisting of at least 1 clear drugstore polish (which can work as a base too if you only want colourful foil accents) and a couple of cheap foils. Again, what are you waiting for?! 🙂
