100% Vegan & Cruelty-Free – Superdrug Simply Pure Leave On Water Mask

Hi there! Today’s post is about Superdrug‘s Simply Pure Leave On Water Mask. This product is fragrance-free, and it promises “lightweight, cooling hydration to uncomfortable and sensitive skin”.

On the back of the tub it says the mask should be applied to cleansed skin. Leave the mask alone for 5 to 10 minutes, then rub in the excess – gently!

I’ve used this mask a couple of times now, so let me tell you what I think. 🙂

When I tried the mask for the first time, I didn’t like it at all. I was sure I’d return it for a refund. Why? Well, this mask has a strong menthol smell. I understand that this is what causes the cooling sensation. But I found it scary. I thought I might have a problem if I get this stuff anywhere near my eyes. So I took extra care when I applied it – and it was fine. No redness, no weird tingling sensations on my face. No issues. After a few times I started to use the mask everywhere on my face – that includes my eyelids and the delicate skin under my eyes – and everything’s 100% fine.

However, the mask (which is pretty much a thick jelly) feels super tacky. If you apply too much product, you won’t be able to rub it into your skin. Once this mask sits on the skin, you can’t do anything with it. So it’s best to apply a reasonable amount in the first place, that way you don’t have to deal with it again. Just leave it alone, and it’ll be fine. 🙂

It took me a few weeks to make peace with this product. Now I’m happy that I didn’t return it. The first few times I found the mask awful, but then I started to appreciate it. Now I actually like it! At the moment I’m using this mask once a week (on stay-at-home days only). I apply it right after my morning shower. I leave the mask alone for a few minutes, and then I apply a normal day moisturiser on top of it. Yes, my face will still feel tacky all day, but I’m being rewarded with incredibly plumped up skin. Great stuff!

Vegan & Cruelty-Free – Superdrug Simply Pure Refreshing Toner

Superdrug Simply Pure TonerHi there! I’ve recently tried Superdrug’s Simply Pure face scrub (which is really good). So I ‘ve now tried Superdrug’s Simply Pure Refreshing Toner as well.

First of all, this toner is aimed at people with sensitive skin. It says it’s fragrance-free and hypoallergenic.

OK, we all know that ‘hypoallergenic’ doesn’t really mean anything. That’s because almost everything can cause an allergic reaction. It’s just that products which claim to be hypoallergenic contain ingredients which are unlikely to be problematic for the majority of people.

Now, how do I like this toner? First of all, the toner doesn’t feel refreshing. And when I use the toner after I’ve washed my face or cleansed it with a cleansing milk, it’s not very effective at removing traces of cleanser or make-up. Any other toner used after this toner will pick up grease and grime which this toner didn’t catch. Not great. At all.

And then there’s my ‘favourite’ flaw – this toner causes a tingling sensation on my skin. And it’s not a pleasant one. I’m sure most people who’ve had a bad reaction to a face care product remember the unpleasant feeling they had before their skin broke out. So I won’t continue to use this toner on my face anymore. I’ll now use the leftover toner (= basically a full bottle) to clean my jelly stampers (the ones I use for nail stamping) which I can’t clean with acetone.

So what’s my verdict? If you wear make-up everyday, and if you look for a toner that removes traces of make-up after you’ve cleansed your face, this one won’t bring you much joy. In any event, if you want to try this toner, use it with caution – just in case. If it works for you, that’s great.

Superdrug’s Simply Pure Refreshing Toner is available as 200ml for £2.69. I paid £1.29, so you should keep your eyes peeled for better than half price promotions.

Vegan & Cruelty-Free – Superdrug Simply Pure Smoothing Face Scrub

Superdrug Simply Pure Face Scrub 2Hi there! Superdrug has a relatively new product line. It’s called Simply Pure and it’s aimed at people with sensitive skin. Superdrug ran a half price promotion recently, so I thought I’d give some of these new products a try.

I’ve now used Superdrug’s Simply Pure Smoothing Face Scrub for a few times and I’m really happy with it.

First of all, this scrub doesn’t contain crushed apricot seeds or walnut shells which have become unpopular because they’re very harsh and they can cause tiny cuts on the skin’s surface.

So this scrub would be great for those who look for a non-abrasive and gentle facial scrub that won’t harm their skin.

The Simply Pure scrub won’t give your face the ‘St. Ives treatment’, but I think it’s definitely effective. And it’s very gentle and doesn’t aggravate my sensitive skin. So I could probably use it every day if I wanted to.

I would definitely recommend Superdrug’s Simply Pure Smoothing Face Scrub – not only to people with sensitive skin, but to everyone. If you have sensitive skin, you’ll probably be glad to hear this scrub is fragrance-free and hypoallergenic. In addition, it also doesn’t contain methylisothiazolinone, so that’s another potential irritant you don’t need to worry about.

Superdrug’s Simply Pure Smoothing Face Scrub is available as 75ml for £2.69. Mine was £1.29, so I’d recommend you keep your eyes peeled for better than half price promotions. 🙂
