Hi there! A few weeks ago Superdrug ran a half price and triple points promotion on lots of different own-brand products. I’m a serial bargain hunter, so I took advantage of the best deals. 🙂 I stocked up on Naturally Radiant and Clearly Youthful products – and I tried Superdrug’s Refreshing Day Cream SPF 15 For Normal Skin.
I paid £1.69 for this 50ml pot – which is an incredible bargain. But even without any deals or promotions, this cream is usually £3.49 – so it’s still cheap. This cream is also 100% vegan and cruelty-free – it is BUAV-approved and it carries the Leaping Bunny logo! Now let’s get to the actual product review…
I must say I’m surprised by how good this face cream is. I wasn’t expecting more than basic hydration. But this cream is actually nice. The formula is surprisingly rich – but despite this, the cream sits really well under my make-up. Another thing that’s great is that this cream makes my skin feel hydrated for hours – probably even for an entire day. I think this is fantastic considering I’ve got dry skin and eczema!
I’d have to deduct (imaginary) points though. I’m not in love with the fragrance. It’s not unpleasant, but it’s not great. (Yeah, years and years of using Olay products spoiled me!) And I don’t love that this cream comes in a pot. I don’t like to dip my fingers into a pot for weeks (or even months). I would have preferred a tube or a small bottle. But these two bits are down to personal preferences – the next person might adore the fragrance and / or love that this cream comes in a pot.
Anyway, I would definitely recommend this face cream, no matter if you’re on a budget or not. If you just want a reasonable face cream (with SPF 15) that moisturises your skin well, you should try it.
Superdrug’s Refreshing Day Cream SPF 15 For Normal Skin (and dry skin) is available as 50ml for £3.49. But keep your eyes peeled for half price and BOGOF promotions to bag even better bargains. 🙂
You got this for £1.69! And even at full price it’s a steal. I think you guys are so much more ahead of us with vegan / cruelty free stuff. We still pay a premium for those claims.
The scent of a product is a big factor for me…

Dirt cheap, I know! 🙂
Yes, there’s lots of cruelty-free stuff to be found on our side of the pond. If you ever come to the UK, make sure you visit Boots and Superdrug before you hit the department stores. 😉

I wish we could find more vegan and cruelty free brands over here at an affordable price. Everything is so expensive here in the states!

Here, on our side of the pond, we’re actually spoilt for choice when it comes to cruelty-free products. And cruelty-free usually isn’t expensive at all. If you ever visit the UK, make sure you hit the drugstores before anything else. xx

I don’t like to stick my fingers directly into a tub of cream either. Do you have any of those little plastic spoons/spatulas lying around? They usually come with creams and such at least from Asian companies… I’ve used plastic tasting spoons before as well (the kind they give you samples on in ice cream shops). 😊

Thanks for stopping by and for commenting. xx
I’ve tried a spatula before (ages ago), but it’s not for me. I thought it made my morning skin care routine too much of a ritual. It’s very fancy, no doubt. But I just prefer moisturisers in bottles. Quick & easy. 🙂

I totally am the same-pump bottles all the way! Especially if I’m gonna spend 10 minutes applying a bunch of face products. Have to get out the door eventually! I just hoard the spoons for those fancy night creams/sleeping packs I use every once in awhile 🙂 nice to have handy tho!

Finally someone is thinking the same about jars! I do understand that they often are less harmfull to nature (at least when made from glass) and that you will be able to get even the last few drops but as someone whose skin is a total bitch I prefer things that I can squeeze or push instead of sticking my finger in – i mean even when cleaned it never is 100% clean.)

That’s a good point about dipping fingers into a container…

Some great products. Since trying quite a few of the super drug skincare ranges I’m really convinced you don’t need to spend a lot on a decent moisturiser, x

I couldn’t agree more! Some of their own brand products are simply excellent.
